Goal Setting

As I pass by the beach one evening I saw the sun setting by the horizon taking its last breath of the day before it dies. Wasted sunset. Most of our lives are like the dying sun of the day. Without any accomplishment the day ends everyday. If you want to live vibrant lives set a goal or two to see the results you wanted in life.

People choose three kinds of living. One will travel by rail, another by a motor car or by air. The first group is what I call a commoner. People who have zero goals in life. The second is a little adventurous who travel on a path drawn by others. They mirror other successful people to get up in life. The third one who travels by air to outer space is the people who will show a difference and become extremely successful.

The next question is what goal to set and how to set it? I will deal the first question.

We cannot build a castle in a day. It has to take time and effort. Timeline is involved. To choose a goal we need to know what is urgent and what is immediate and what is necessary. To remember this art of goal setting I call this YOU AND I (UNI). The three points corner presents:

Urgent

If everything in life is urgent time will become our first enemy. In order to make time our friend we need to know what is urgent.

You are on an important meeting and you suddenly feel a strong pain in the abdomen area. You need to go to the gents or ladies to relive your tummy upset. Which would you choose? Needless to say there is no choice as you cannot control the call of nature. This is one example of what is urgent.

In other words, there is no such thing as choice when you define something is urgent. The degree of pain is involved when something is termed as urgent. If an event or accomplishment is not carried out within a specific frame of time and if that gives us pain, that can be urgent. The amount of delay in that project is a direct function of how much pain we can stand.

Necessary

The basic necessity in life is food, clothing and shelter. That is a traditional need. In present day life, a computer or a hand phone is a basic necessity. It is the entity which can bring the world much closer and flatter.

For the past two months my computer got crashed. I have to save some money to buy one. The two months I felt that the computer had become part of me. It was not painful but I feel it is necessary to have one. How can I communicate and impress the readers without this gadget.

Immediate

When I was working in a firm, the reports we make to our senior officers are sometime tagged as immediate.

If a house perimeter fence has a big gap at its foot, then it is immediate that the fence is put right. By this trespassing is prevented. A fisherman is set for a big catch next day will have to repair his torn net tonight. It is immediate. A bride getting married the next day has to remake her image today to prevent the bridegroom of probably saying “I do not” or not his cup of tea in tomorrow’s wedding.

To have affluent and active lives why not try the UNI now.
